This Friday’s Blue Ridge Parkway Anniversary event will be a special one. On Friday, Sept. 10, the two governors of North Carolina and Virginia along with congressmen, senators, and other Blue Ridge Parkway dignitaries will gather at the location where construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway began on Sept. 11, 1935.
This 75th Anniversary occasion will be marked with a formal ceremony at Cumberland Knob, NC beginning at 11 a.m. Speakers include the governor of Virginia, Honorable Bob McDonnell, and the governor of North Carolina, Bev Perdue. Other speakers include Virginia Congressmen Bog Goodlatte and Rick Boucher and North Carolina Congressman Health Shuler and North Carolina Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan.
