Grayson County Independence Festival

If you’re short on Independence Day plans, head to Grayson County, Virginia and enjoy a 5K fun run, a bottle boat regatta, a watermelon eating contests, and, of course, amazing fireworks to top off the night. The fun begins July 3rd and last through July 4th. There will be music, entertainment and food, so the whole family can have a great time!

God and Country Celebration

The God and Country Celebration in Yadkin County is a daylong town festival with a patriotic theme featuring music, food, crafts, parade, speeches and fireworks. This popular event will take place the Saturday before July 4th and will begin at 9:30 am. Estimates put attendance at this popular event between 10,000 and 15,000 people. The celebration starts off with a parade that features floats and bands, which compete for prizes.  At noon, music begins on the music stage at the school and features local and regional bands performing bluegrass, old-time string band, gospel, and rock & roll. Beginning at 6:00pm, there is a patriotic program featuring a special speaker each year who talks about “God and Country”. There is also gospel singing and a special feature to the evening program honoring local veterans, which includes military music.  Fireworks begin at 9:00pm.

Alleghany Co. Fiddlers Convention

The Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention has gained a lot of reputation because of its family oriented atmosphere. In here everywhere you turn will be happiness and good vibe. Wayside Bluegrass Festival

In the Wayside Bluegrass Festival everybody is welcome. The festival is located three miles south of Stuart, Virginia.  This is a very family oriented festival in which several artists perform their Bluegrass music and this year will take place from July 13 to July 16. The location provides the campers with rough camping and electrical hook up camping. This year artists like Crusher Run, Ten-Brooks, Virginia Sky, and many others will be performing. Galax Leaf and String Festival

For nine years, during the second weekend in June, the Galax Leaf and String Festival has served to highlight the best Virginia has to offer. This festival was originally created as a traditional music event, but the community continued to evolve into a showcase for other events as well. Wine, Bid and Boogie

Looking for an exciting way to help out a community? Visit the Wine, Bid and Boogie Art Auction in Germanton, North Carolina. Slip on your dancing shoes, tip up your glass and buy some great art in order to raise money for the Stokes County Arts Council. Musical entertainment is provided as well as a wine tasting from Germanton Winery and a live and silent auction of beautiful and unique artwork. The event usually takes place sometime in June. Grab your friends and family and head to the Wine, Bid and Boogie event to have a great night.

Yadkin Valley Wine Festival

Whether you enjoy drinking wine with every meal and know all the types or you just want to try something different than what you’re used to at home, the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival has a little something for everyone. With crafts, live music, and of course, wine tastings, this will be one festival that you won’t forget easily. In addition to wine, there will also be non-alcoholic beverages and food available for purchase, so children are more than welcome as well. Tickets in advance are $16 and tickets at the gate are $20. Merlefest

Music lovers unite; Come and enjoy this annual event in Wilke’s County that is sure to make you get up, dance and smile. MerleFest showcases some Virginia’s finest bluegrass musicians and artists from around the region. This event was founded in 1998 and has been a looked-forward to sensation ever since. Mark your calendars for April 28th thru May 2nd for this not-to-miss celebration. The History of Merlefest

If you enjoy listening to new music and attending festivals, then don’t miss out on Merlefest in Wilkes County, North Carolina. This festival was founded in 1988 in Memory of Eddy Merle Watson as a fundraiser for Wilkes Community College. The festival combines traditional and country with new country, a term Doc Watson called “traditional-plus”. Doc Watson himself described traditional plus as “the traditional music of the Appalachian region plus whatever other styles we were in the mood to play”. Rooftop Crafts

Since 1965 Rooftop of Virginia was formed along with its goal of helping low-income citizens from Carroll, Grayson and the City of Galax. Rooftop continues the fight against poverty by helping people develop different skills or by promoting those skills each citizen has. Rooftop is divided into several departments, each of them focused in different tasks. Rooftop Crafts offers everything from arts and crafts to emergency home repair, rental assistance and some other special projects concerning the Earned Income Tax Credit program and the Virginia Individual Development Account program. Rooftop also organizes Fundraising events such as the Nightmare Mansion, music events and much more.
